DESCRIPTION:
Kirtan is a form of devotional chanting whose roots go back over 500 years to India. It is a form of bhakti yoga (yoga of devotion) where the audience is encouraged to participate through its call and response style – the leader chants and everyone in the crowd repeats. In its heartfelt expression, kirtan is music for the soul and can induce profound states of meditation, bliss and ecstasy.
BHAKTI YOGA BEIRUT BIO
Philip and Tulsi formed Bhakti Yoga Beirut in 2010 with the hope and goal of sharing the ancient tradition of bhakti yoga with the Lebanese community. Born in Lebanon, Philip’s journey into the devotional world of bhakti yoga began in Montreal, 2007, when he was introduced to the deep philosophy of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition. It was here that he met Canadian born Tulsi. As they learned more, bhakti became less of a practice and more of a way of life, and in 2012 they both received formal initiation from Radhanath Swami Maharaj. Inspired by their spiritual teachers, they along with the other members of their internationally flavoured group, have a strong desire to share the joyful gift of kirtan with others.
